Switching messages causes flash of white when in dark mode
Reported by Mike Conley | May 19th, 2021 @ 04:11 PM
If my Mac is in Dark Mode and I have MM set in Widescreen layout, and I traverse through the list of available messages, each time the message changes in the viewer, there is a flash of white before the dark background is drawn. I suspect this is simply the default white background appearing and then being drawn over by the dark background when the viewer realises that Dark Mode is enabled. It's highly annoying, and seems to have started recently. That is, I've been running Dark Mode for awhile now, and only seem to have noticed this within the past couple of Beta updates.
Actually, yes, I've verified this: If I downgrade to Version 1.13.2 (5673), the problem goes away completely. If I update to Version 1.14 (5798), the problem is back. And if I finally update to Version 1.14 (5807), it's still there (though perhaps not quite as bad as in 5798, but definitely there, whereas in 5673 it's not).

Revision 5673 uses an older HTML view (which has been obsoleted by Apple). The new one behaves differently and it's surprisingly hard to avoid that it draws itself before its content has been loaded (or partly loaded). But I'm aware of the issue and a fix might be an opportunity to improve some other related issues as well. It's not at the top of my list though and might have to wait until after I've been able to make a public release of 1.14.
