Unable to paste text from text from Excel into a new emai. Running Mailmatel Version 1.14 (5789)
Reported by Richard Rettke | April 27th, 2021 @ 12:31 AM
Multiple times a month I have 6 spreadsheets that I need to paste as text into email. I am now on Version 1.14 (5789) and when I copy from Exel and paste into Mailmate, it creates a PNG attachment rather than pasting the text.
I worked around this by Pasting into BBEdit and then copying from BBedit and pasting into Mailmate. I am somewhat baffled as to why it thinks 2 columns and 10 lines of text (which include URL's) should be treated as a PNG attachment.
I am running
Microsoft Excel for Mac 2011
Version 14.7.7.(170905)
Latest Installed Update: 14.7.7
This has been off support for a number of years so I know nothing
has changed with Excel.
Thanks

The PNG is created by Excel and MailMate thinks it's the best form of representation for what is pasted. Note that using qualifiers you can change pasting to explicitly “Paste as Plain Text”. I did add (r5747) that MailMate would detect Excel and generate a plain text Markdown table of the data, but apparently that does not work for your version of MailMate.
Let me know if this does not help. You might also want to update to the latest test release: https://updates.mailmate-app.com/archives/MailMate_r5799.tbz

Hi Benny, thanks for the quick response.
I updated to the 5799 release but it behaved the same.
I then did some searches and found that other people with other applications, even on Windows have this same issue with copied text in Excel pasting in (Skype, Discord, others) as a PNG image. On Windows, only Notepad seemed immune to this.
I found a discussion about trying other key combinations when pasting which I presumed would be no joy because if you knew of a key combo in mailmate you would have mentioned it.
That led me to try pasting from the clipboard in Keyboard Maestro (which I have used and loved (like I do Mailmate)) for a long time. Lo and behold I had never noticed a gear option in the top right of each entry in the KBM paste window, clicking on that gear provides a myriad of options and settings, one of which will paste the copied text - As Text.
I just wanted to thank you again for you help and wanted to share the above in case someone else runs into a similar issue. I find the KBM solution to be a minimal intrusion into my routine.
Thanks again for awesome software and exceptional support.

Sorry, I didn't give you the exact key combination in MailMate, but I did mention “Edit > Paste as Plain Text”. The shortcut is ⌥⇧⌘V.
I hope that might (also) be helpful.

Thanks for the update.
I did try Edit > Paste as Plain text but that option does not appear. Tried several different copy past scenarios but was never able to get Edit > Paste as Plain text to appear in the Edit menu (Version 1.14 (5799))
The keyboard shortcut does indeed work though, thank you.
