IMAP Deleted Flag Support
Reported by Mario Murphy | October 3rd, 2020 @ 05:51 AM
As you (hopefully) know, in IMAP, there are flags for messages.
One of those is Deleted
.
Once upon a time, "deleting messages" was the act of flagging
some messages Deleted
, yet leaving them where they are
(often in gray type), and then expunging those messages (actually
removing them from the folder/mailbox).
In recent years, however, this has instead become: "move
messages to a Trash folder, then flag them as Deleted
while also hiding them from view, then auto-expunge some time
later".
The first workflow is one that I've been using since IMAP was the new hotness. Today I upgraded my Mac to their current OS, and have found their new Mail app unusable, for this very reason. It used to be that deleted messages could be still viewed, then expunged. But no longer. So I'm now looking to greener pastures, and am eyeing this fine app.

For what it's worth, this functionality is a blocker for my adoption of MailMate. I have no desire for the auto-generation of useless (to me) folders like
Deleted
,Trash
,Deleted Messages
, or the like. All I need is delete/move of a message turns on theDeleted
flag, the message still appears in the list of messages for that mailbox, and then a key-command to "expunge/delete deleted messages".Thanks for your consideration!
