Highlight and copy parts of subject line

Reported by Mark | June 28th, 2012 @ 03:49 PM

I often receive emails from which I need to copy and paste part of the subject line (e.g. reference numbers quoted in the subject line).

There currently appears no way to highlight and copy part of a subject line. The only option is to copy the whole thing (right click), and then wrangle the text one wants out of it.

Can a modifier key be added that will allow one to highlight+copy parts of the subject line?

The long-term plan is to replace the current headers view with a different view based on a Webview. That should also mean that selecting/copying becomes easier (I plan to replace the current link-text-style with suffixed link-arrows instead, but we'll see).

Thanks, that makes sense---I’m looking forward to the new headers view.

    Hi Benny,

This "wish" is quite old but seems to me still quite important, especially when looking at the flexibility offered by Mac Mail in this domain. May be it's possible to just duplicate this behavior and way of presenting?

It's possible to select from the start or the end of text now, but because it's links then you cannot select in the middle of, e.g., subject text. That might change if I ever switch to link-arrows as indicated above.

An easy workaround for this is in the menu, select Command->MailMate->Change Subject (or just type ^s) and then select a single item from the editable subject line!

However, I'm still hoping that you switch to link-arrows as you mention above.
