Line breaks in text emails
Reported by Chris H | November 19th, 2019 @ 12:13 AM
Hi - my text emails are sometimes broken up with multiple line breaks.
When someone replies to me, in the trail I can see my email:
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
has become
blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah
I don't know if this has happened when they received my email, or if they received it ok, but when they replied the formatting changed.
Any idea what causes this and any setting I can change to prevent it?
thanks

I am also experiencing this. An email I sent was rendered by the recipient's Samsung mobile email client with extraneous line breaks. Recipient's email client is either completely updated or very close thereto.

From what I can tell, "text" emails are sent out as-is. So if you put in returns at the end of lines, they are sent in the email. If you let the lines wrap in the text box, there are no returns in what's sent.
I don't think this happens in HTML emails created from markdown. So you might try just turning on markdown for everything.
I've love to have a new feature that fixed this automatically for me even on plaintext emails.

I've recently seen and heard this feedback from my correspondents.
Specifically, I noticed this when I sent a non-multipart email of "Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed". The reply came from a Gmail user, with visible line breaks in the reply matching the location of automatic line breaks in the MailMate-generated source of my email.

I couldn't find a solution to this and stopped using mailmate for most email. I work in a gmail environment, and the line breaks in the middle of sentences looked really bad. Maybe there is some setting I never discovered that lets the plain text mails show correctly.

Benny - is there any plan to fix this behavior? It’ll get me to stop using MailMate too.
