Viewer Layout is not remembered across app instances

Reported by Mike Conley | January 29th, 2019 @ 01:16 PM

More often than not, it seems that the Viewer window does not remember my Layout setting. I always use 'Widescreen', but when I come to work in the morning, log into my Mac, and start MailMate, it invariably winds up in 'Three Panes'.

This seems to occur only if I log out of my account and log back in again. I just now tried simply quitting MailMate and relaunching, but it retained the Layout setting.

I will try verifying whether this occurs during logout/login when I get a chance.

Didn't happen yesterday, but did again this morning. Yesterday evening, when leaving, I quit MailMate and left my machine to put itself to sleep and to restart itself at midnight. I came in this morning, logged in, and launched several apps, including MailMate. MM started up in Three Panes layout; I had to manually select Widescreen.

    • State changed from “new” to “cantreproduce”

Earlier on MailMate would reset the layout when it crashed, because a combination of the configurability of MailMate and a bug could some times lead it to get into a state which would make it crash at launch (when setting up the layout). I disabled that at some point, but I still get reports about the layout being reset. If you spot some kind of pattern to this behavior then let me know.

Happend again just now. It occurred after my machine was restarted by an installer (for Little Snitch, in this case) forced a restart. All the apps were quit, the machine rebooted, and when I logged in, all the apps that were running started back up (that's not the normal behaviour for my account; I generally do not automatically relaunch apps when logging in, but I guess the installer sets the flag before the reboot).

Because this particular iMac takes so long to restart, I won't try to reproduce this until later today, perhaps. Maybe you have a faster test machine and can have a go.

This seems to happen every time I restart my machine with MailMate running. On relaunch, it's forgotten the layout, and the open/closed state of the mailbox folders in the Mailboxes pane. It's pretty consistent. And I'm now running 5622.
