MailMate crashes when bringing up a source after a long time
Reported by Kai Grossjohann | December 3rd, 2018 @ 08:34 PM
I have an email account with a provider. Some weeks ago that provider experienced problems, I took the corresponding "source" offline in MailMate. Now they say that they have reinstated my account with the old password. Based on their information that it was a disk failure and that I would lose my email, I suspect that they just created a new account with the old user name and the old password. I think that might be relevant.
MailMate still has all the old data of that source, of course.
When I take the source online or synchronize it, then MailMate crashes.
I guess maybe deleting the account and then re-adding it again might be a workaround. But I will hold off on it in case you would like to debug this.
I vaguely remember that there was a debug mode I could turn on in MailMate so that it would store some information about the crash. But I forgot how to do it.

Sorry about the late response.
If you still have this issue then I'd like to see one of the crash reports. There's a chance that the crash was (implicitly) fixed in one of the latest test releases since it's similar to another issue.
But wouldn't you want to first save a copy of all of your emails? If you synchronize it then everything will be deleted (because the server claims they no longer exist and the copy in MailMate is just a cache of what is on the server).

Very nice! So I updated to 5576, then I took the source online, and -- lo! -- it works! Very nice!
I got a prompt about uidvalidity, I told it to resync.
Thank you for the reminder to back up my emails, you can't remind folks too often. Luckily, this time I remembered to do it.
So this issue can be closed I would say.

I'm glad it works. If the UIDVALIDITY issue is something that happens regularly then you should look into why it happens. It is extremely inefficient for an offline IMAP email client like MailMate.
