Encryption Problem

Reported by matthias | September 27th, 2018 @ 10:29 AM

Hello,
I'm trying to send an encrypted message and get the following error:
KEY_CONSIDERED xxxxxx 0
KEY_CONSIDERED xxxxxx 3
INV_RECP 0 recipient@domain.tls
FAILURE encrypt 53

The key is valid, but I can't encrypt, what to do?

Thanks
Matthias

Sorry about the very late response!

Error codes from GNUPG are not always informative. According to a header file then 53 means GPG_ERR_UNUSABLE_PUBKEY.

Does this only happen for a specific recipient or all recipients?

If you want I can provide instructions to get a command line for the Terminal with which you can more easily experiment -- if you are a Terminal user.

I had as similar issue where the recipient used a different domain for GPG mails. I only found out after examining the output of the key list

    gpg -k

and copied the desired email address from there.

Thanks for the hint. Perhaps it'll be useful for people googling the same issue.
