"Send Later" While Using MailMate on Two Computers
Reported by Mark | September 19th, 2018 @ 08:10 PM
I have recently started using two MBPs, one at work (OS 10.11.6), one at home (OS 10.13.6), running MailMate with identical settings, IMAP sources, and so on (as much as possible, anyway, by copying .plist files). I semi-regularly use the Send Later header to send out appointment reminders to clients. Now that I am using two instances of MailMate, the one thing I notice is not the same on both machines is Send-Later messages: each of those resides only in the Outgoing smart mailbox on the machine on which it was created.
I want to make sure all Send-Later messages actually send at their appointed time. I do not know how Send Later is working under the hood; specifically, is it a client side or server side operation? My concern is this: I plan to shut down the MBP at work at the end of each work day (because it's a GPU-ailing 17" early-2011 that tries to overheat), and I worry that if that computer, with its own apparently unsynced-to-home Send-Later messages, happens to be turned off at the time the messages are scheduled to send, they won't send.
Advice? What do I need to know to be able to manage this intelligently?

Your analysis is correct. “Send Later“ emails are only sent if the machine with MailMate is open. It is not synchronized. It would be tricky to do this while also guaranteeing that the email is only sent once. It's not impossible, but it would still leave the problem of emails not being sent at all if no MailMate installs are active. The best solution is a server-based one independent of MailMate. I haven't googled it, but I assume such services exist. Let me know what you find if you do the research.
I guess it would make sense if SMTP servers supported sending with a delay (they don't), but then it would also be necessary with a method to cancel such deliveries...

I did find a send-later service: LetterMeLater. Use is either via its website or, for us MailMate users, via any e-mail client using this method. Only just started experimenting with it, so jury is still out.
