Redirect message
Reported by mariow | December 29th, 2011 @ 08:41 AM
Either I cannot find the option or Mailmate is not yet able to redirect a message. It should be possible to forward a mail while preserving all headers.

Is a feature like this planned? Would love to see it - until then I'll start Postbox for my daily redirects ;-)

The feature is on my list. I debated such a feature with another user recently. This user also wanted to be able to edit the message before redirecting. Some (maybe most) clients allow this, but I think this is wrong behavior and I would like to at least do it in a way that guarantees that the content of the original message has not been altered.
So my question is: Do you also edit messages when redirecting?
By the way, related to this request is that MailMate should also display when a message has so-called Resent-headers.

Just like you I think that a resent message should never be edited and showing an info if a message was resent is also a good idea.

Could you also include a symbol for the redirected flag, like the arrow <- for forwarded mails?

Good point. I don't really think there is an official standard, but I
should both set$Redirected
and display some arrow for redirected
messages.(I have not yet made any progress on this request.)

What I would like to have with a resent is the possibility to add a kink of which would allow us to add an internal email reference for further processing.
Ex: someone watches a mail box, sees that a mail relates to a certain project, adds the project reference tag and "redirect" it for further processing ( thru MM filter or CRM system )
I do agree that one should be sure that the content of the original mail is intact.

Please add a "redirect" or "bounce to other recipient" feature ASAP.

I too would love a redirect/bounce feature.
I do not ever edit the message when redirecting it, my typical use case is when a client emails me directly and I want to bounce it to once of our ticketing systems.

To redirect messages I still have to start Postbox. It would be a great feature for mailmate. I don't need to edit the messages before redirecting.

Just another vote for a redirect/bounce feature. I don't need to edit the message.

Another vote for this feature too. I also use it for sending messages onto a ticket system when needed.

This must be one of the most often requested features in the ticket system...
It's actually non-trivial to add this feature, but now I've done it. It required quite a lot of changes and therefore it is only available via a direct download at the moment. You can fetch it here. Any bugs would likely also affect regular replies or new messages. Feedback is welcome.
Quick description:
- New menu item: “Message ▸ Redirect” (⌥⌘E).
- New custom key binding:
redirectMessage:
- Specialized composer window which allow editing (Resent-)From/To/Cc/Bcc of the redirected message. The message is displayed below the headers and the headers view can be updated by hitting Save (⌘S).
- The composer does now allow editing the body of the message (because it is wrong to do so).
- Composer window still allows editing “Send Later” and “Tags”.
- MailMate also adds
Resent-Date
andResent-Message-ID
to the redirected message.
Feedback is welcome. You can review the the resent headers of the raw message using “View ▸ Show Raw Message”.
@mariow: I'm sorry you had to wait this long :-)

No worries about the wait, I'm happy to see this feature working (just tried it out and it works fine)
