Detect duplicate messages?

Reported by Alan Schmitt | December 28th, 2011 @ 09:13 AM

When I send a message to a mailing list to which I'm subscribed, I end up with two copies of the same message: one in my Inbox, and one in my Sent Messages box. Could there be a way to recognize they are the same message and delete one of them? Otherwise it messes up the "Thread Arcs" view with extra messages.

I think deleting a message would be a bad solution since the messages are really not identical. One message is what you have sent and one is what you have received after the message has been altered by mailing list software. It can often be important to be able to review what exactly happened to the message.

But the problem is real. It is also discussed in this thread. I should perhaps make my final suggestion the default in MailMate, but I don't think I verified that it works, and there may be situations where it does not behave appropriately.

I'll use this ticket to track any progress on the subject. The default behavior should be improved some way.

I agree the messages are not identical. The solution proposed in the thread would not work because I archive messages I've sent (and periodically export the archive as a backup), but there may be a way to adapt it.
