Dragging attachments to finder broken in MacOS 10.13

Reported by Wes Carroll | October 29th, 2017 @ 11:36 PM

Running Version 1.9.7 (5425):

SETUP
In Three Panes View, Organized By Thread, select a message that contains one or more attachments; observe the message body in Pane 3. Note buttons Quick Look and Save.
Hover over the document name Note that an underline appears. Click it to open the attachment.

Now, rather than opening the attachment, drag its name to a Finder window (i.e. a folder).

BEHAVIOR
Note behavior under MacOS 10.11: File is copied to folder.

Note behavior under MacOS 10.13: No action. <-- I consider this a bug; I hope you agree.

COMMENTS AND REQUEST
The behavior under 10.11 was a surprisingly important part of my workflow: I drag attachments from mail messages into specific folders via Finder windows rather a lot.

Any chance that behavior could somehow me reinstated to me under MacOS 10.13?

Thanks so much, Benny!
Wes

    • State changed from “new” to “closed”

Something changed on High Sierra which I have not been able to work around. No matter what I've tried to do I can only make it result in a so-called webloc-file (which is useless). To avoid confusion I simply had to disable it. But note that dragging the icon to the left of the filename still works. I agree that this is less convenient.

Eventually, I'll replace how attachments are handled such that they are shown in a separate list (not within the message view itself). This would also be a workaround for this issue.

I'll close the ticket (you can still comment) although it really should be in some kind of cantfix state.

Oh, man, being able to drag the icon completely resolves my issue. I am rather surprised I didn't think to try it, but I didn't.

Thanks both for mentioning that key workaround, and also for the update to this report in general.

(Also, I agree that your proposed future solution would work well.)

(FWIW I also agree that it was wise to disable the webloc behavior -- that would indeed have confused me.)
