Before the last updated if you did a search with the From default selected, then you got your search results and then switch it to To it kept what you typed in search and did a search on that for the different field.
Now if I switch from one field to another for the search it blanks that out.
This is a big issue because I am often looking for something in a chain and if I don't see it in one search field I might swtich to another.
Is there a way for me to make this work the way it used to?

You can update to the latest test release. I think I've fixed this issue: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane.

Sorry about the inconvenience of this bug (it was a side-effect of a fix to a High Sierra issue).
