Unable to filter through mailbox exclusion

Reported by Richard Chick | September 18th, 2017 @ 03:18 PM

I have been unable to create a compound mailbox selection which applies filtering to a residue mailbox (which I'm calling "Working") without adding specific conditions which have already been successfully applied within the excluded mailbox. The attached file is a snapshot of the "Mailboxes" tab of the smart mailbox, Working. There are no Conditions, Submailboxes, or Rules for this mailbox. The mailbox "Woodworking" contains one email. That email appears within Working whether or not the compound rule to exclude the Woodworking mailbox is applied.

I guess I should have described what led me to submit this ticket. I have a large accumulation of emails which I am trying to organize. To do so I created a smart inbox with a large number of sub-mailboxes. Each of these sub-mailboxes contained emails accumulated from other subordinate mailboxes either by creating conditions or by simply accumulating the contents of other subordinates (all of which works fine). When I try to filter the smart inbox by removing the contents of all subordinate mailboxes from "All Messages" I find that I am unable to do that.

Please disregard this ticket. I'm not sure what's going on with the example submitted but I'm finally starting to get expected behavior (messages disappearing from smart inbox) when adding messages to a child smart folder.

One thing I would like to see changed is to require that a smart folder be named before its properties dialog form opens. Things can get very confusing if multiple folders are being added at once.

    • State changed from “new” to “closed”

Let me know if this issue returns.

I've got it in some (old) notes that the name of a mailbox should be editable in the mailbox editor itself. This should then be the active field right after creating a new mailbox. I think this would also work for you.
