Mailmate crashing on startup
Reported by Aleksander Jarosz | February 18th, 2017 @ 05:59 PM
Mailmare is crashing on startup. It started 2 days ago, can't use email. Attached is the output when I start it via terminal. Can't see anything pointing towards a solutions. Have updated to newest version. Any ideas?

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Do you know what happened before MailMate got into this state. Based on the output it appears you have a misconfigured account using
impa.gmail.com
instead ofimap.gmail.com
, but this shouldn't result in the problem you are having now.I think it's best if you start over. You can do that by deleting all files/folders except those with the
.plist
extension in this folder:~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/
Make sure you have a backup in case you have any emails which had not been uploaded to the server.
You might need this resource to find the
~Library
folder. -

Nothing really. That's the weird part. It just stopped working. That's why it's also so weird, because I did not add or remove any accounts. It was rock solid for like 2 years with this setup and then out of the blue it's gone. Bummer.
If I delete what you just mentioned - what will I loose?

If you keep the
.plist
files and the accounts were fully synchronized then you shouldn't loose much. The main problem is that MailMate is going to spend time refetching emails from the server(s). If you have Exchange accounts (or some other weird server not supporting IMAP keywords) then you can lose any custom tags you might have used. If you want to be safe then you can start out by renaming theMailMate
folder and then create a new one -- then copy the old.plist
files into the new folder before relaunching. That way you can easily go back to the old setup if that is needed to regain some data. The
impa
vsimap
was not the result of a recent change? -

Benny,
Thanks. No, it was not due to any changes - that's why it's so super weird. The only thing that might have caused any glitches is that I update via TJ Luoma's DI scripts - basically a set of shell scripts that automates the update process (I can update all of my apps by a single command when I want, instead of whenever the app checks it's ready) - so maybe it downloaded some bad version? But I have been using this for a couple of months already and it's been rock-solid.
I have now created a new MailMate directory, copied *.plist files into it and it seems to work. I have lost some tags, but some are still there - it could be due to the msgs still being downloaded, right?
I use only gmail. Should I get all my tags back, what's your experience here? Thanks for the help!

- State changed from new to closed
With Gmail I would expect you to get all tags back, but you shouldn't see any emails without their tags since emails and tags come together (IMAP keywords).
No, a bad download would not result in this behavior.
I'll close the ticket, but you can still comment. Especially if this happens again and we can get closer to how/where it begins. (This kind of issue is very rare which makes it hard to debug.)

Short update: The amount of tags seems to grow, suggesting that they're being updated as MailMate pulls emails from the server.
