Markdown formatting does not work in replies (r5284)

Reported by Nitin Madnani | October 4th, 2016 @ 06:26 PM

I just updated to the latest beta (r5284) and now markdown composing doesn't work when replying to an email in 90% of the cases. However, it works just fine when composing new emails. I am attaching a zip file containing two screenshots: (a) my composer settings and (b) a reply window where markdown doesn't seem to work.

    • State changed from “new” to “cantreproduce”

You can try downgrading to see when this problem was introduced: https://updates.mailmate-app.com/archives/

I couldn't reproduce the issue though. Let me know if you figure out what triggers it (what the difference is when replying works and when it doesn't work).

[I'm not sure why my previous comment were marked as spam].

It looks like it somehow depends on the email being replied to or something. If it's coming from my colleagues who use Outlook/HTML, the markdown formatting works but if it's from gmail, it doesn't? I can't be sure though. Is there a way to force Mailmate to pass the text through Markdown?

Oh and this seems to happen with the latest public release too.

I downgraded to r5249 and Markdown now works as expected in ALL emails, replies and otherwise. However, now pygments does not work even though I have the bundle installed. Oh, well, may be in a future beta things will all work.

I haven't received more reports about this which is puzzling. I've tried again to replicate your settings and reply to various emails without any luck.

Could you try again with the latest release: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane.

Try launching from a Terminal window to see if there are any error messages when Markdown fails to work:

(There's no way to force Markdown other than to use Markdown syntax, e.g., in your plain text signature.)
