Failed to move message

Reported by Augustine | August 16th, 2016 @ 06:37 AM

Hi

This afternoon I am repeatedly receiving this message:

Failed to move message
Server response: “J28 NO [ALERT] Cannot MOVE messages out of the Drafts folder (Failure)”. Command attempted: “J28 UID MOVE 1614:1615 "Deleted Items"”.
Tip: Open the Activity Viewer (⌥⌘0) before retrying. The IMAP log file might provide additional information.

Sometimes the J28 is J11 or something similar.

I think drafts in my gmail account are the only ones giving me an issue. I also run an office365 email off Mailmate. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do about this? There's a lot going on the activity viewer so I haven't copied anything out yet but I will if someone recommends it.

Cheers

Augustine

Some IMAP servers do not allow moving emails from the Drafts folder to any other folders, but there is no standard way to tell this to the email client. The [ALERT] response simply means that MailMate should show the error message to the user.

In other words, the problem is that you have a draft that you deleted and now MailMate is trying to move it to the “Deleted Messages” mailbox of the account. In this case, the mailbox in the IMAP account is named “Deleted Items” (according to the error message).

The solution is to locate it in “Deleted Messages” and then delete it again. This is going to make MailMate drop the attempt to move it and it will instead just delete it permanently (at its current location in the Drafts folder).

I hope that makes sense. If you have trouble locating the messages (there appears to be 2) then try enabling the UID column in the “Deleted Messages” mailbox. Then look for messages with no UID since this is a sign that they have not been successfully moved yet (server side).

I hope this helps. Otherwise let me know.
