Inserting a signature a current cursor position
Reported by Andreas Jung | February 1st, 2016 @ 06:40 AM
The composer windows allows you to insert a custom signature at
the top or bottom of the text.
It would be handy in many situation having the option to insert a
signature at the current signature.
I need this frequently when working in replies.

You mean at the current caret location?
It's not obvious how that should work. There could be a special “Insert Signature” sub menu which would insert at the current caret location, but that seems a bit like overkill.
Maybe it would be sufficient to change the logic of switching signatures. Currently MailMate tries to replace the current signature with the new signature (although this is a bit flaky at times, but that's a different issue). I could change this such that when the current signature is not found then the new one is inserted at the caret location instead of following the top/bottom preference.
I'm not 100% sure all users would like that, but would it work in your case?

There are already menu options BOTTOM and TOP. They can't there be a an additional "AT CURSOR" option be?

Bottom/top are based on usage history (and Signature prefs) and when changed it affects the default location in future messages (to the same recipient). In this context “at cursor” wouldn't make much sense. You would want to use it as a sticky setting for all messages (I assume) such that whenever you choose a signature then it's placed at the current caret location. But it cannot work both ways.
My suggestion was an attempt to simply make it work when you select a signature disregarding the default location of a signature. My question was whether or not it would work for you and that depends on your exact use case. It wouldn't work if you already have a signature elsewhere in the message and then select a different signature and expect MailMate to both replace and move the signature. It would work if you don't have a signature in the message or if it's already next to your caret location.
I hope that clarifies my question.

The usecase is - again - pretty clear: I am writing an email or writing a reply and I want the option insert a signature at the current cursor instead of the bottom or top. Is this so hard to understand?
