Failed to send message - IMAP, Mailmate Version 1.9.3 (5186)
Reported by Henning Fueller | November 24th, 2015 @ 08:44 PM
Hi,
Thanks for your great client (until recently). Upgrading to the
latest Mailmate Beta Version 1.9.3 (5186) and running OS X 10.11.1
suddenly broke my always rock solid Mailmate experience.
Several unexpected hangs and need to force quit - I got used
to.
Since updating to (5186) today I now experience an additional problem when trying to send a message. Message does not leave the draft folder and the following message appears:
Unexpected return code 530 (expected 250):
“#5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first”.
Any experience or advice?
Best regards,
Henning

Check your IMAP account settings (File ▸ Edit IMAP Acccount ▸ ...). Make sure SSL is enabled for the SMTP server.
This doesn't look like an issue which could have been introduced with a recent test release, but I might be wrong.

Thanks for the quick help!
Checking the SSL Box at the SMTP Server resolved the issue.Just strange as I did not change anything here for weeks and sending out mails resolved perfectly fine until today.
Thanks again,

- State changed from new to resolved
If no explicit port is configured then MailMate automatically tries some of the standard (and non-standard) ports. One of them is port 465 for which SSL cannot be disabled at all (if it behaves like most servers do on this non-standard port). Maybe MailMate has used this in the past, but then it failed for some reason and MailMate then tried port 25 or 587 which require an explicit STARTTLS command. And this is not applied if SSL is disabled.
(For the record, there are almost no circumstances where SSL should be disabled. In fact, I should consider simply removing the option and only have some hidden option for expert users.)
