Import Accounts window showing old list
Reported by Karl | October 7th, 2015 @ 04:33 AM
I deleted an account from Mail.app's account window yesterday, and added a new IMAP account today. However, when I go to File -> Import Accounts, I still see the account that I deleted as an option to import, and I don't see the new IMAP account I made. I quit MailMate and Mail.app, and reopened MailMate to see if something was cached, but I get the same thing. Running 10.11.

El Capitan changed how OS X saves email accounts. I suspect the old ones were there because you have not launched Apple Mail and therefore the pre-El Capitan files were still present. Doing that though is just going to mean that you'll get an empty list.
I've experimented a bit with “reading” the new way OS X saves email account settings (there is no public API for this). You are welcome to test the newest test release available here.
I'll treat this ticket as a request for importing email accounts on 10.11+.

Thanks for the reply. However, I actually did launch Apple Mail many times, and those accounts still show up. Also, I tried the test release you mentioned, and now the Import Accounts window shows just one item: a checkbox with a blank label.

@Karl: Ok, my El Capitan install is a clean install. Apparently Apple Mail does not upgrade old accounts, but new accounts are only added to the new system. This is important knowledge for me. Thanks.
I'll probably make a test release with a lot of debug output for the import code. I hope you'll try that for me as well.

Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane. This is going to provide you with r5145 and I'd like to know if this improves the number of accounts you see when trying to import.

I tried r5145, and it still shows old accounts. It also shows an empty checkbox account, which I assume is the new IMAP account that was created under OS X 10.11, but it doesn't let me import it (the button is disabled.) If I understand correctly then the only problem is the blank entry?
Could you try enabling this (in a Terminal window):
defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmDebugElCapitanImporter -bool YES
Then launch MailMate from a Terminal window:
/Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate
Open the account importer and there should be a lot of output in the window. Send that to me using “Help ▸ Send Feedback”. Thanks in advance!

Ok, all done. However, when I go into the Help menu, the "Send Feedback" item is disabled. Any ideas? Could I email you the log?

Hmm, that should only be disabled if you have not configured any IMAP accounts in MailMate...
Yes, you can send by email. That's exactly what the menu item does (creates a new email). You can send to the direct email listed here: http://freron.com/contact
