Mailmate crashes shortly after starting
Reported by rob | September 25th, 2015 @ 10:39 PM
My Mac OS X 10.10.5 laptop crashed and I had to restart. After this event, everytime I start MailMate it crashes shortly after. I mean I start to use it and it works for a bit of time but then crashes. The crash may be after I hit send or when I open a specific email but it always crashes after working with it for a bit. I think something must of get corrupted when my laptop OS crashed.
- Running Mailmate from command line
(/Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate) does not
generate any errors in the command line.
- My database.log file contains the below:
2015-01-08 17:25:55: Real size is smaller than expected size
(327620 < 327640): /Users/rsipko/Library/Application
Support/MailMate/Database.noindex/Headers/#date-last-viewed.cache
(42)

Can you please help? I know I have very large mailboxes - I like to keep all of my email accessible through search when I travel. I do not know if that is reaching its limit. Once we resolve the issue, I'd love a recommendation how to handle this while still giving me offline access to my email for search.

Ok, MailMate just crashed after launching from command line and here is the output:
rsmacair:~ rs$ /Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate

Sorry about your trouble. Given the crash it sounds like some kind of database corruption which MailMate does not detect before it's too late. Just in case I need it then I'd like to first save some diagnostic data. Paste the following line in a Terminal window:
cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate/Database.noindex && find -E . -regex './(Headers/(message-id|references|in-reply-to)\..*|Sets/.*)' | tar -cvz -f ~/Desktop/mailmate_headers.tar.gz -T -
That should create a file named
mailmate_headers.tar.gz
on your Desktop.Just in case it is somehow related to a fixed bug I'd like you to try the latest test release of MailMate. (But I don't expect that to work.)
Now, to force a rebuild of the MailMate database you should follow the instructions provided here. (I should make this easier...)

Hi Benny,
I am unable to upload mailmate_headers.tar.gz as it tells me "Upload Quota Reached.
Please notify the account owner." in this forum page. Can you please help? -

Sorry about that. You don't need to provide me with these files yet. I'll let you know if I need them. Just continue with my other instructions.

Hi Benny,
I have downloaded the latest MailMate version you included. When I started it, it detected corruption and asked me to rebuild. I did using the stored messages. Then after several hours of rebuilding the MailMate now seems to operate without any issues. Anything to learn from this for the future?
Any suggestions on how to handle 700K message that I have that I would like to be searchable offline when I travel? I am concerned that when my laptop dies and effectively crashed MailMate, I will have to go through this rebuild process periodically which takes now several hours at a time and may even need contacting you to send me a next version of MailMate to be able to detect the corruption. Thoughts?
