Large batch move failed - can't stop dialog boxes
Reported by Avery | July 6th, 2015 @ 11:31 PM
I was moving a large number of messages (30-40k ?) from one folder to another (IMAP based server). Somewhere the process encountered the following error:
Failed to move message
Server response: “J9 NO COPY failed or partially completed.”. Command attempted: “J9 UID COPY 2193027:2193129 Archive”.
Tip: Open the Activity Viewer (⌥⌘0) before retrying. The IMAP log file might provide additional information.
Now I am getting a dialog box for each message that I must actually click on. I can't quit the app except with Force Quit. Coming back in just picks up with it left off. I tried taking the account offline, but it doesn't change anything. It takes about 1 sec for each dialog box to appear, so you can see the predicament.
Is there any way to stop this and reset without blowing away my account? If I do that, will I lose my rules?

FYI... Activity Viewer provided no useful data. It just showed that it was moving message by message through the list. Now that I took it offline, it's staying IDLE, but the dial boxes are continuing to pop up.

The best you can is probably to cancel the move by moving the messages back. If you enable the UID column in the messages outline then you can see which ones have been successfully moved (those with a UID).
I can see there can be a problem with the number of requests. I think the only workaround is to do the following in a Terminal window (when MailMate is not running):
rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate/Database.noindex/Headers/#imap-protocol-error.*
If the mailbox (or account) is not offline then you might need to keep the machine offline to avoid MailMate generating a new set of errors.
I'll note to make it more graceful to get out of such a situation.

Thanks Benny.
Is there a way to have it do a complete sync w/ my IMAP server? I'd like to have it just completely reset and re-download to ensure it matches what is on the server.

If there are no error messages and all mailboxes are online (under SOURCES in the mailbox outline) then it should match the server, but a complete reset can be done by deleting the following folders (after quitting MailMate):
~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Database.noindex ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Messages ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Attachments
That maintains your settings (accounts, sigs, tags, etc.) in the remaining plist-files in the same folder.
You might want to move “Messages” instead of deleting it just in case you had sent messages in the account which had not been uploaded to the server.
