Mailbox search field

Reported by Paul | May 6th, 2015 @ 02:10 AM

The MailMate mailbox search functionality, eg in the "Move to Mailbox" window, is really ingenious. Fantastic feature. Something not obvious is to use "/" in the search string to delimit the mailbox names within the hierarchy.

Here's a request:

could be have a Mailbox search field, at the top of the mailboxes column, that would filter the mailbox list in the same way?

Thanks,

Paul.

Do you mean in the mailboxes outline in the main window of MailMate? That seems a bit redundant. When searching for a mailbox then it would most often be for the purpose of going to or moving to a mailbox which can already be done using ⌘T and ⌥⌘T.

    Not really redundant:

    • Some users prefer mouse operations to keyboard shortcuts, and also want always-on access to some features (without having to go through a menu). This is the reason why the message search feature is always visible, I guess.
    • A "filtered" list of mailboxes would be very useful when managing messages across multiple mailboxes, for instance during "spring cleaning" or when splitting a single mailbox into multiple sub-mailboxes
    • It seems quite intuitive to allow mailbox searching in this way, rather than in a popup window.

If implemented, the display of this search field could be a settable preference.

My opinions of course, but as a long-time and high-volume email user.

    Thanks,
