Google Apps mail account shows (unavailable) about once a minute
Reported by Louis Beaudoin | April 23rd, 2015 @ 02:09 PM
I have a large (94k messages) Google Apps mail account, and it seems like every time it tries to synchronize, it ends up saying "(unavailable)" on all folders and the account itself, then a 5-10 second pause, then busy indicator on account, followed by busy indicator on a few folders, then "(unavailable)". It's usually showing the busy indicator on Send Mail (12k messages) right before "(unavailable)".
I haven't noticed any missing messages while searching so this hasn't really been an issue for me, but it is annoying to see a busy indicator and/or (unavailable) nearly any time I'm looking at MailMate.

It sounds like your account is not yet fully synchronized. Google has a bandwidth limit which can make the initial synchronization very slow due to throttling. You might be able to see what is going on using the “Activity Viewer” (⌥⌘0).
I suggest you right-click “Sent Mail” and use “Take Offline” to see if the rest of the account settles down (fully synchronized). You might have to take more mailboxes offline. After that we can focus on what happens when taking “Sent Mail” online.

Wow, this ticketing software is surprisingly bad, I typed my response, clicked update ticket, which asked me to sign in and then lost my response.
Seems like a specific message from June 2014 was giving it trouble, I saw something like "invalid character in literal", "tcp socket closed unexpectedly". Deleted the message, emptied trash, and now it's catching up on syncing everything past June 2014.

It finished syncing and the problem is now resolved. Thanks for your help.

Ok, I've not seen this problem for Gmail before (dropping connection after an error), but I guess we cannot reproduce it now. (In general, it's tricky to work around problems where the server drops the connection.)
The ticket system: Sorry about the loss of message. I'm mostly satisfied with Lighthouse although it was not really designed for user feedback.
