Link in ToDoist opens Apple Mail, not Mailmate

Reported by David Foster | April 1st, 2015 @ 07:22 PM

Hi Benny

The Todoist bundle correctly creates a task in Todoist e.g.

@personal Pension or Company Link: message://%3cB51010BBADADCA469509B03DE6FED14316E85B00@SBS2011.rlnet...

but when I click on the link, the system (Yosemite) opens Apple Mail and obviously cannot find the link. Mailmate is showing as the default email application in Apple Mail preferences.

Any ideas?

Thanks
David

    • State changed from “new” to “resolved”

You need to use MailMate to set the default email application (in the General preferences pane). Otherwise the message: URL scheme is not assigned to MailMate.

Let me know if that does not work for you.

    Hi Benny

That is already the case. Both Apple Mail and Mailmate have this setting but still clicking the link in Todoist opens Apple Mail. Is there another setting that I need to change?

    Thanks

Yes, but you need to make sure that you use MailMate to set it. Use MailMate to switch to Apple Mail and then back to MailMate. There are no other settings to control this.

I've seen (in the past) that Apple Mail some times silently steals back the message: URL scheme, but MailMate should be able to handle that automatically.

Thanks - that worked. Thanks also for the speedy responses, I would never have found that because everything LOOKED ok.

    Cheers

I played around with it a bit and I cannot do anything about how Apple Mail presents it in the General preferences pane, but it also seems like there is an issue with how MailMate handles it (a warning about the missing message: URL scheme should be shown automatically, but that appears to not always happen).

I have posted in a different thread as this one is quite old, although seemingly more relevant to the problem I am encountering. Apologies therefore for the double posting.

When creating sending a mail to Todoist as a task, the link created in Todoist does not link back to MailMate. From MailMate>Preferences>General, I can select different Default Email Clients, none of which are MailMate. I have tried each of these, but regardless of whether the selected client is Postbox, Spark or Outlook, the link created in Todoist still wants to open the mail in Apple Mail.
My system default e-mail is currently set to Spark, but I have not found an option to set this to MailMate.
I am not sure if I am looking in the right area but would appreciate any assistance to resolve this issue and to have the links created for emails/tasks in Todoist take me back to MailMate.
