iCloud Sync
Reported by Michael McLane | February 27th, 2015 @ 03:18 AM
Pardon me if I am missing something or if this is the wrong place get help.
I am syncing an iCloud account and I am having difficulty getting it to sync in a timely manner. Meaning, I would like it to sync immediately on any changes.
I see the Synchronization schedule but the account and manny folder in the account do not seem to allow me to select "Connect" which, I assume, means immediately. Also, many of the folders and even the account itself has all option greyed out.
I get differing performance in this matter on different machines.
Am I missing something?

- State changed from new to closed
A mailbox with the “Connected” state uses what is known as IMAP IDLE. This requires a connection to the IMAP server and it can only handle 1 mailbox. Most servers have an upper limit on the number of open connections and MailMate itself limits it to 3 connections for each server. In other words, you can at most have 3 mailboxes using the “Connected” state. Low-level, this can be increased, but MailMate is not designed to efficiently handle a huge number of open connections (the OS also has its limits).
The proper solution to this problem would be that IMAP servers could notify about new messages for all mailboxes in an account in a single connection, but this does not exist. IMAP was originally built on the assumption that you only view 1 mailbox at any given time and therefore would not have a need for more than what is offered by IMAP IDLE.
I hope this makes it a bit clearer. I'll close the ticket, but you are welcome to add more comments.
