Acrobat XI "Send file As email Attachment" fail

Reported by Tom McPherson | February 18th, 2015 @ 01:51 PM

Acrobat XI seems not to be able to communicate with MailMate. My attempts to use the "send file as email attachment" feature of Acrobat result in the message "The SendMail doesn't know how to talk to your default email client. Please select a different email application to use."

If I use Apple Mail as the default client then all works as expected. However, I want to stick with MailMate so now I am working around the fail by saving the pdf then attaching via MailMate. A bother since I send a lot of pdfs out.

Sorry if this is operator error on my part.

There is unfortunately not a standard way for an application to ask the default email client to create an email with an attachment. Each application must explicitly support each email client. That's of course bad news for a niche app like MailMate.

If the application has a proxy icon for the file (the small icon to the left of the file name in the window title as seen in Preview and MailMate itself) then this can be selected and dragged to MailMate as a workaround.
