Mailmate still FETCHes offline directories

Hi there,

I'm testing Mailmate for use as a SpamSieve drone on OSX so that our iPhone users can have a spam-free inbox.

So far it is performing better than Mail.app and Airmail. The account I'm testing with is pretty big (15 years of email - 10GB across lots of folders/sub-folders).

  • I only want the Inbox monitored (all the other folders are archives) and so have set all the other folders to "offline". However the Activity Viewer shows Mailmate accessing every folder as part of the synch process. How can I only update selected folders (eg. Inbox / TrainGood/ TrainSpam).

  • If there is a connection issue Mailmate throws up an error dialog (Can't connect with SSL - OK / Cancel). Mailmate won't resume the connection unless an option is chosen. Is there a Hidden Preference to allow for ignoring connection errors and continuing to reattempt connection regardless?

    Sorry about the delay. Some times tickets are marked as spam and I have no way of being told when this happens (I also found some 6 months old ticket comments).

    For performance you might want to try out the 64 bit beta.

    The first point is probably what you describe in your other ticket (submailboxes being fetched). But I think you should do this differently. Instead, use “Edit Subscriptions” in the IMAP account settings to make sure MailMate ignores anything but the INBOX (and Junk). See “File ▸ Edit IMAP Account ▸ ...”.

    The connection happens at random times? Do you know why? (Might be a bug.) For debug purposes I have a preference for increasing the number of retries, but this is not used for all types of errors. You add the following to an account:

    maxNumberOfRetries = 10;
    

    The default is 3 I believe. You add it to this file when MailMate is not running:

    ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Sources.plist

    Thanks for the fast reply! Am going through unchecking all the Client subscription boxes. There are a few hundred mailboxes (and submailboxes, and sub-submailboxes). Is there any easy way to unsubscribe all? (or to unsubscribe from a child mailbox when you unsubscribe from the parent? The sub-sub mailboxes don't show by default.)

    Thanks for the retry tip too, will try that as well.

    You can unsubscribe all by holding down ⌥ when clicking on a checkmark (if I remember correctly).

    Hi Benny, Thanks again. Am running the 64bit beta to see if it helps.

    I have updated the Client subscriptions for all mailboxes apart from the INBOX, TrainGood, TrainSpam, Junk, etc.

    After I hit "Apply" the Inbox reset and MailMate redownloaded the 2,000 or so emails there. All the unsubscribed mailboxes have now disappeared from the SOURCES folder tree (apart from a handful which show as server unsubscribed in File ▸ Edit IMAP Account > Subscriptions, but checking via Webmail I can see they actually are subscribed server-side).

    What I was hoping to achieve was full access to all the mailboxes and emails on an adhoc basis, but only have the INBOX (and a couple of selected mailboxes) auto-update, with the rest set to manual as and when those mailboxes are accessed. Is this possible or am I hoping for too much? :)

    Oh, that sounds more like you needed the “Synchronization Schedule” set to Manually for most of the mailboxes. “Manually” actually also means that if you select such a mailbox to view it then it'll update. MailMate just doesn't schedule any background updates of the mailbox.

    When unsubscribing mailboxes then MailMate starts deleting them in its database indexes in parallel with other actions. At this point it might be better to simply wipe ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/ and start over. Possibly keeping the .plist files in that folder.
