Stylesheets
Reported by Phil Stone | October 18th, 2014 @ 04:16 PM
I am a brand new user and loving Mailmate so far.
Could someone please tell me how I can use stylesheets to modify how my emails look. When I have created a stylesheet do I have to save it as a .css document in ~Library/Application Support/MailMate/Resources/MmMessagesWebView or have I got the wrong location.
If someone could point me to some examples of Mailmate stylesheets so that I can appreciate what can be done that would be fantastic.
Thank you.
Phil

Thanks for trying out MailMate.
The location is correct, but you also need to use the
stylesheet.css
filename:~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate/Resources/MmMessagesWebView/stylesheet.css
Currently, the best example is probably the default file:
MailMate.app/Contents/Resources/MmMessagesWebView/stylesheet.css
Please share if you create an alternative.
Note that these stylesheets only affect what is displayed in MailMate (plain text messages). They do not style the messages you send (I'm working on such a feature, but it's not ready yet).

Question: when we want to affect how the emails look in MailMate.app, should we use the stylesheet called
stylesheet.css
located
~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate/Resources/MmMessagesWebView/stylesheet.css
or, should we use
html_stylesheet.css
located
~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate/Resources/MmMessagesWebView/html_stylesheet.css

The first one affects plain text (including Markdown) emails for which MailMate generates HTML before displaying it.
The second one should affect all displayed emails.
Neither affects outgoing emails.

So I tried the simple "green" stylesheet.css example, created the directory, and placed in
~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate/Resources/MmMessagesWebView/stylesheet.css
as instructed. Maybe something has changed since 2014, but after restarting a few times, still no effect?

benny, it looks like some things have changed. Nothing I do to the stylesheets located here:
/Users/Anthony/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Resources/MmMessagesWebView/stylesheet.css
or
/Users/Anthony/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Resources/MmMessagesWebView/html_stylesheet.css
...do anything anymore :/
I noticed there's a new file here:
/Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/Resources/css/stylesheet.css
...which is maybe trumping things now?

@Anthony Craig
I had the same problem after updating to BigSur and then MailMate Version 1.14 (5818).
In a comment on ticket #2816 Benny mentions the new
main.css
. I was successful in using it to get the messages to be formatted the way I like it. -

@phph: This is correct. It might change again though.
Right now, there's also
headers.css
anddetails.css
, but ideally these won't be HTML views at all some day in the future (for performance reasons).
