MM v4045 visibly pausing

Reported by Jim Hopkins | March 3rd, 2014 @ 06:43 PM

Running on Mavericks 10.9.2, with Mailmate v4045.

Whenever I switch folders in an IMAP account, I get a spinning "rainbow" cursor for 1-2 seconds, sometimes longer. While this is happening, the program is unresponsive. I have about 120,000 total email and 20 smart folders. This is the first time I've noticed this issue.

For what it's worth, there is no delay if I switch among the smart folders, although I can see the program work through the IMAP folders as I change my smart folder selection (as indicated by the MM "updating" indicator).

There's also no apparent delay moving from one message to another in a given folder.

Thanks,

Jim

I cannot see any reason there should be a difference between IMAP and smart folder. It's more likely to be related to the number of messages in the folders or maybe it's something completely different like ticket #417.

If you can reproduce the issue (sounds like it) then use the Activity Monitor application to create a process sample while triggering one or more of these delays (this is also described in ticket #417).

    Thanks in advance!

    Morning, Benny.

Thanks for the quick response. The issue is reproducible -- clicking on an archive folder with 66K messages will consistently trigger it. I've attached a process sample, taken while I clicked this folder. I noticed that CPU usage spiked to 99% when I clicked the folder. Did this several times -- spikes of 60-70% are more common, but 90%+ isn't infrequent. The CPU spike lasts 1-2 seconds.

    Take care,

    Jim

Sorry for the multiple updates. I'm running on a 15" MacBook Pro Retina (2.3 GHz Core i7) with 16 GB ram and an SSD with plenty of room. Open apps included Chrome, iBank, App Store, TweetDeck, Dashlane (behavior seems independent of which apps are open).

    • State changed from “new” to “cantreproduce”

The code for drawing/updating the mailbox list has completely changed since this ticket was created. I'll note it as “cantreproduce”, but it might actually have been fixed (implicitly).
