Showi Smart Mailboxes in which a selected message resides
Reported by Harvey Leff | January 2nd, 2014 @ 11:44 PM
I am new to MailMate (in Trial Day #5), and find it remarkably good. One feature I cannot find is a way to determine the Smart Mailboxes in which a selected reference resides in "All Message" resides. Perhaps I've missed a way to accomplish this. If not, I suggest it as a feature request. This would work similarly to "Add to Playlist" and "Show in Playlist" in iTunes. There, when multiple songs are selected, the "Add to Playlist" option exists, while the "Show in Playlist" option is absent. Thanks.

This is not as easy as it may sound. In order to determine which mailboxes a message belongs then all of the mailboxes need to be computed. These can (and often are) based on quite complicated queries and MailMate computes them as lazily as possible for the sake of performance (both space and time). In practice though, many/most users only have and use smart mailboxes which are already displayed. Therefore I could probably add this feature by only displaying any smart mailboxes which are computed (and simply ignore those which have not been computed).
That was not very clear, but I'll mark the request as accepted and then I'll worry about the performance issues :-)
I don't get how an equivalent of “Add to Playlist” should work, but you can get something similar to that by making a smart mailbox based on a tag. MailMate does not allow manually constructed sets of messages without using a tag.
Note that “Message ▸ Go to Source” (badly named) shows a message in its IMAP mailbox.
