Stop Evaluating Rules Action or Similar Behavior

Reported by paul messenich | December 19th, 2013 @ 03:00 AM

I have applied rules to the mailbox Inbox in MailMate. My historical goal for rules processing (in the Apple Mail.app) has been to move incoming messages that can be reviewed at a later time to another IMAP mailbox and leave messages alone in the Inbox for immediate review across many platforms. Messages hitting a match in the rules have had one of two actions applied:

  1. Stop evaluating rules: when a match is hit and the message needs to stay in the Inbox
  2. Move message to IMAP mailbox and stop evaluating rules

Can you clarify the behavior of the rules implementation and whether it is possible to replicate the above behavior? Or possibly, my perspective needs changing because it is rooted in an older past method - is there an alternative way to achieve the goal.

Peace,

paul

There is currently no “stop” action, but I can note that as a feature request (tracked by this ticket).

With respect to an alternative approach. I guess that is only possible if you start matching on the messages that need to be moved instead of those that stay, but I guess that won't be easy.

You can hack it by marking with a tag when a message is going to stay and then any following rules should check the tag before moving.
