Unable to delete messages

Reported by David Shpritz | January 19th, 2021 @ 04:09 PM

Hey there,

I have a few messages that I can't seem to delete. Well, I can delete them all I like, but they just keep coming back on the next resync of the mailbox. I've tried clearing the cache, as well as the local mailbox files, and then performing a full resync, but I must be missing something. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dave

Sounds like maybe the server rejects or ignores the deletion somehow. Or it's cancelled for some reason (a deletion is most often a move to the trash mailbox of the account).

    Try this:

    • Open the Activity Viewer (⌥⌘0).
    • Perform 1 round of deletion and resurrection.
    • Use “Help ▸ Send Server Logs”.

Which revision of MailMate are you using?

The server logs have been sent, I mentioned this ticket in the text. I am currently using version 1.13.2 (5673), according to "MailMate" -> "About MailMate".

The logs were perfect. Here's an example with all the irrelevant parts cut out:

It is exactly as you describe. The mailbox is synchronized and a message is deleted (first copied to Trash and then expunged in the INBOX). There are no errors when doing this. Later, when the INBOX is synchronized again then the message reappears (UID 256666). My guess is that duplicates are created every time this happens in Trash, but maybe the copying is also ignored.

This appears to be an issue with the Zimbra server and I don't see any way to work around it. You can refer your IT department to this ticket and let me know if they have a different explanation.

It is most likely that using a different IMAP email client would reveal the same result, but maybe it's worth a try. If a webmail-client is available for the account then it might access emails directly (without) IMAP and that might work.

Worked on some stuff on the server end, namely, the messages that would not delete in the inbox of MailMate. I found them in the trash on the Zimbra server, so I emptied the trash. Lo and behold, they were removed from MailMate as well. Thanks for your help!
