Moving to MailMate: some emails classified as (no Sender) (no subject)

Reported by Franco Groppi | May 26th, 2020 @ 01:07 PM

My system: MailMate/5671/434109C3-E3AB-5AEB-95DB-A1EF3DB0AD0A 10.15.4/x86_64/MacPro6,1/24

Hi all,

I am moving from Apple Mail to MailMate.
I found MailMate a very good and professional mailer. All the features I need works perfectly (including automated rules and Certificate signing/encripting).

I have only an issue, regarding some archived e-mails (found in my IMAP accounts), that are correctly viewed in Apple Mail but MailMate classifies as (no sender) (no subject) and (no headers found) in the viewer.

Looking at these e-mails (using Option+Command+U), the only thing I have found in common among all these emails is a “blank line” (a new line ‘\n’) at the beginning of the “.eml” file.

Is there a workaround to solve this issue?

Thanks in advance, best regards.

A workaround does not exist, but I guess I could add one. The emails are not formatted correctly, but MailMate already has a gazillion similar workarounds :-)

If possible, could you send me an example using “Help > Send Feedback” (drag'n'drop the example email into the message) and then I'll look into it. Do you have any idea how these emails came to be like this? (I have not had this issue reported before.)

(After the fix, you will likely have to refetch all of these emails to make the database/search work properly.)

    Hi,
I have solved the issue exporting out of MailMate the messages (about a thousand exported locally), deleting the messages from mailboxes, running a script that removes the first blank line from each locally exported message, and reimporting the message into MailMate and the relative mailboxes.

I have several e-mail account since over 20 years, so these (very old) messages maybe where there from a long time but I have never “seen” them as a problem until I moved to MailMate.

Actually the re-imported messages look perfectly and also the attachments are fully available.

Apple Mail doesn’t seem to have problem managing wrong formatted messages like these (it has other numerous issue as well… ;-) )

    Thanks, best regards.

Thanks for the update. I'll postpone adding a workaround for this kind of issue until someone else reports the problem. Emails should not start with a blank line since it actually means that the message has no headers and that the entire body is plain text. Therefore, a workaround is also kind of like adding a bug :-)

Let me know if you figure out how they came to be, e.g., if new ones show up.
