Display of From Header Field
Reported by D Yates | March 6th, 2018 @ 09:23 AM
Hi Benny,
Some messages are showing unusual values in the From column of the mail mailbox viewer. They mostly seem to be ones with the same surname as me. For example, I have received an email where the 'From:' field in the header (when viewed with Show Raw Message) is M M Yates <____@___.com>. In the viewer, it shows up as just Yates. The issue is the same for many messages received from a Yates. Also, my sent messages just show Yates, even though the IMAP entry has 'D Yates' as the name.
I discovered the from.cache file in ~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate/Database.noindex/Headers/ but could not tell whether there was something wrong with the file.
Any suggestions? I am running version r5443 and have over 70'000 messages, so if I can avoid re-downloading everything from the server, that would be great.
Many thanks.

Try the latest test release: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane. I think this is a symptom of an already fixed bug (related to single letters in name parts of address headers).

That fixed it for email I have received, although not for the ones that I have sent. I presume the reason is that the bug populated the From: header of my outgoing emails with the wrong name, and hence can't be retroactively fixed. Is that correct?
Many thanks.
