Importing a large .mbox causes MailMate to stop responding

Hi,
I'm trying to import my exported .mbox file from Gmail into FastMail. The mbox is large - 6.43GB, so I fully expect it to take a while. But MailMate goes into a "Not Responding" state while trying to import it - not possible to pull up the interface, shows 'Application not Responding' in the dock and Activity Monitor.
