MailMate + Gmail: Messages archived via MailMate still in GMail inbox in web client

Reported by Daniel Dornhardt | May 15th, 2016 @ 02:37 PM

Hello,

i'm a new user and i'm trying to try out MailMate without disrupting my current emails too much.

I added my gmail account, which seems to work fine so far, and I also went and did the whole [Gmail]/Archive - thing which I don't think is related to this particular issue but I thought I should mention anyway.

Now, the thing is: When I use the "Move to Archive" - Function from inside MailMate, the message seemingly gets moved to the archive inside of the app, but in the GMail web client the mail stays in the inbox. What's going on? Is this the expected behaviour?

I can see that in MailMate under Sources / Gmail / [Gmail]/Archive there is still a spinner spinning, for some time now, and in activity viewer I can see that there is one thread doing UID BODY.PEEK[] - commands. But I don't know if that's connected or not.

So, what I'd like to know: Is there a way to "synchronize" the archived files from MailMate to gmail?

Thanks and best wishes

Daniel

Ok, it now stopped syncing the Sources / [Gmail]/Archive - folder and archiving and unarchiving seems to be working fine.

So that one seems to be taken care of.

Maybe something to add to the documentation.

/I think the whole gmail - thing probably isn't all to clear yet, no matter how well you try to explain everything.

I think it is a hard thing for new users to wrap their heads around, at least in part because experimenting with your email accounts can lead to big trouble down the road in case folders go missing or things get lost (or duplicated :) ), so there is a kind of resistance to messing with this and I for one was afraid of understanding the docs wrong and messing up my messages of 5+ Years.

    Thanks and best wishes

    Daniel

Thanks for trying out MailMate. You are right that the manual page on Gmail is too complex. Since MailMate, by default, handles Gmail quite well then I really should simplify it.
