Forward not using address pattern...

Reported by Jason Quigley | March 8th, 2016 @ 11:45 AM

Hi Benny!

When I forward an email to a particular address, it always uses the last from address. This is a pain when trying to forward to a spam/ham address as I have to customise the from address every single time :-(

Shouldn't this function the same way as replying with an address pattern regex?

Thanks,
Jason.

Could you try the latest test release to see if this is still an issue: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane.

    Hi Benny,

I see this in the change log: “New: Hidden preference MmForwardingDeriveIdentityFromRecipient. (Enabled by default.)”

Unfortunately, it doesn’t help. Or maybe it’s disabled for me somehow?

    Thanks.
    Jason.

    P.S.

Ironically, I tried responding to the ticket via email and got the following error:

We received an email from this address that had problems being processed
    into a new Lighthouse ticket:

You do not have access to post to the MailMate project.

It should be disabled or not configured:

    defaults read com.freron.MailMate MmForwardingDeriveIdentityFromRecipient

You can debug what MailMate by running from the Terminal like this:

defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmDebugDerivedIdentity -bool YES
    /Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate

You can send the output via email if you spot something suspicious.

Are the previously forwarded emails in “Sent Messages”?

Lighthouse: And this happened because MailMate used the wrong From address when you reply as well?

    Hi Benny,

the previously sent mails were in "Sent Messages". I deleted them all and it started to work as expected. I've now got a rule on "Sent Messages" which deletes anything forwarded to the spam/ham addresses.

Your application is amazing - every time I dig a little deeper, I find more treasure!

As for replying to the ticket by email, I used the same address (thanks address patterns!) that it was sent to. I'll check the headers at some stage.

    Thanks,
    Jason.

    • State changed from “new” to “resolved”

I'm glad you found a solution.

The ticket issue sounds like a Lighthouse problem if the from address was correct.

I just thought I'd mention the ticket issue due to the irony of not being able to reply via email ;-)

Thanks for all your great work!
