icons in settings / Counters

There are no icons visible, just selective buttons in Settings /
Counters / Dock Icons Counter Positions.
My system: MailMate/5084 MacBookPro11,3/x86_64/8/10.10.3

Not sure exactly what you are asking for, but on a general note the Counters preferences pane is (from my experience) often misunderstood. Each of the buttons to the left represent a separate counter. The position reflects the position of the counter in the Dock icon -- if enabled.
Does that help?
(Some day I promise to fix or replace the Counters preferences pane with something else.)
